DIVING & SNORKELING
Divers in Bali can observe a greater concentration of different tropical marine species than anywhere else in the world. New species are found regularly. Bali has some impressive dive sites. A lot of the diving and snorkeling areas are very close to the shore with lots of colorful hard and soft corals and an amazing range of tropical fish. Bali is one of the cheaper places to learn to dive and most of the centres here have International (PADI) approval.

The main diving and snorkeling areas in Bali are:

Sanur
Code: IE-SL01

If you haven't yet tried these sports, we recommend that you start at Sanur Beach where you can hire the necessary equipment. There are some interesting coral formations, sponges and plenty colorful fish on the reef at Sanur.

Gili Tepekong
Code: IE-SL02

On the east and north sides of the island there is a wall dive with many caves. There are large bommies and many fish such as Triggerfish, Angelfish, Snappers, Butterflyfish, Parrotfish, Moorish Idols and Emperor. Amed Code: IE-SL03 Amed has excellent snorkeling just off the black sand beach and further out of the bay, there is a coral wall with an abundance of sponges and hard and soft corals. Many varieties of fish are there.

Tulamben
Code: IE-SL04

One of Bali's most popular diving site is the wreck of the US Liberty warship. The hull is encrusted with coral and the fish have become quite tame. It offers 3-3 meters dives photographers/marine biologists and divers love this dive.

Menjangan Island (Deer Island)
Code: IE-SL05

Located in a nature reserve, in the Northeast coast of Bali. It offers an excellent 5-40m drop-off. This site boasts magnificent gorgonian sea fan, caves and is the resting place of a wreck called the "Angker". Add sharks, rays and up to 50m visibility and you've got a lot!

Nusa Penida
Code: IE-SL06

About one and half-hours from Bali by motor boat, Nusa Penida offers some truly spectacular and unspoiled diving and snorkeling. An abundance of hard and soft corals make a home for large amounts of tropical fish such as Angelfish and Clownish. Whitetip Reef Sharks search for food at night and sleep by day under corals.
